Augusta University Builds Varsity Success Through Community Youth Sports Programs
Augusta University's varsity results draw from local youth programs that develop players through structured seasons and clinics across the city.
How we reported this
The Augusta University women's basketball team reached the Peach Belt Conference Tournament championship game after an 82-71 upset win over No. 8 Columbus State.
This result arrives as the Jaguars prepare for changes in their golf programs, which will join the West Coast Conference as affiliate members for the 2025-26 academic year. The move ends prior Southland Conference ties and places golf at the Division I level while the rest of the athletic department stays in NCAA Division II.
College Results in Context
The men's baseball team sits at 13-12 overall and 9-6 in Peach Belt Conference play after a 13-6 loss to Middle Georgia. Augusta fields 13 NCAA Division II varsity sports, most of them inside the Peach Belt Conference, with basketball games carried on WRDW-TV and Peachtree Sports Network.
Local Programs Feed the Pipeline
Augusta Recreation & Parks runs three youth athletics seasons each year for ages 5-17, covering basketball in winter, baseball and softball in spring, and flag football, soccer and cheerleading in fall. In April 2026 the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Augusta partnered with Nike for a clinic that served more than 4,700 local youth across nine counties, adding golf and life-skills sessions to existing offerings. The Augusta Sports Council tracks more than 30 youth groups that feed into these same sports.
These community efforts supply the steady flow of athletes who later appear on Augusta University rosters. Registration for North Augusta fall programs opens July 21, 2026, for ages 4-18, giving families a direct next step to stay involved.
